Why Quality TV Shows & Films Are So Important for the Culture!

Have the release of shows likes Black-Ish & movies like Get Out affected audience expectations? What does this mean for millennial viewership?

As millennials, our demand for quality content has heightened. For years, it seemed as though we were put in a box in regards to entertainment.  And, we weren’t being fed with much content of substance. It was all seemingly meaningless, lacking purpose. We didn’t have our version of Girlfriends or A Different World, you know, shows that seemed to come before their time that showed us people like us getting degrees, concerned about their health, dealing with financial woes, and career changing decisions.

Today, it has become evident that we can be provided with material that pushes the envelope and challenges us, all the while keeping us entertained. Thus, we are demanding more from our entertainment sources. From the soundtrack to the level of suspense, millennial viewers look to be wowed. With young creatives like Issa Rae in the Director’s Chair, there is no wonder we level up with every view.

The timing for this great content could not come at a better time, as our generation is becoming a dominant force in the consumer market and has more access and exposure than those before us. We thrive on customization and challenging societal norms. I, personally, find it outstanding that we can have such remarkable works afforded to us and look forward to the various upcoming projects that will broaden our exposure.

As a television junkie, I thought there would be no better way to end this article than to offer some recommendations on some of my favorite woke films/ shows that you must check out:
